Cyber Security is an important safety topic that not many people are educated on. Cyber Security is of growing importance due to the increasing reliance on computer systems and the Internet in mostly developed societies, wireless networks such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and the growth of “smart” devices, including smartphones, televisions and tiny devices as part of the Internet of Things. Our daily life, economic vitality, and national security depend on a stable, safe, and resilient cyberspace. While researching cyber safety I stumbled upon the Stop. Think. Connect. campaign, sponsored by Homeland Security. I was pleased with the amount of information they provide on how to be safe within an online community and our advancing technological world. But what I wasn’t so pleased with was the amount of voices behind the campaign. I feel that cyber safety is something overlooked by a lot of people today and I want to help change that. I created the concepts for these 3 campaigns in a span of 10 days. You will find that they all hit a different audience and portray a different tone in each sequence.
With concept 1, I wanted to create style frames using simple vector graphics that were easy for everyone to understand. I wanted to make cyber safety a fun topic of discussion but also allowing the viewers to have the chance to realize how important cyber safety really is by hitting them with some hard facts. I created a short script for this concept, including key facts on what could be a threat to their cyber safety and then I wanted to help the viewer understand what he or she can do to prevent cyber attacks.
Concept 2 is an Instagram Campaign targeted at the younger technological savy generation. Each frame that includes code would be a type animation that reveals a helpful tip or message on how to stay safe and secure when using technology and the internet. I decided to use a code like language because broken down to the glyphs, code is a very simple form that can be broken and manipulated to steal any information a hacker could possibly want. Creating this campaign for Instagram, I had the intention of targeting an audience that uses Instagram more frequently, the people of the future. And those people should know how to be safe in the cyber world.
Concept 3 may be my favorite idea for cyber security. I think this concept has the most dynamic motion and flow between frames, unlike the previous concepts. The idea behind this concept may be a little hard for ordinary viewers to understand but I wanted to create frames that helped resemble a motherboard that has been broken down to the simplest of forms. I really enjoyed playing with perspective and type for these boards. The viewer is brought into cyber space and thrown down the path of technology. When concepting for these frames I kept asking myself, "what does cyberspace look like." What I came up with was a abstract version of power connectors coming together to frame and important message to the viewer. Stop. Think. Connect.
